This is a winter activity to experience hunting with golden eagles in the wild, where you’ll witness the true art of golden eagle hunting. You’ll stay with a local eagle hunter family, explore the rocky mountains on horseback with the eagle hunters, and immerse yourself in many Kazakh traditions.
In addition to eagle hunting, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet the local Uriankhai tribe, where you’ll participate in their cultural practices such as throat singing, archery, yak dairy products, and more.
The adventure begins with an early domestic flight to Olgii, arriving in the morning. Our crew will be waiting for you at the local airport. From there, you’ll head to Sagsai village, home to many eagle hunter families. You’ll have the chance to meet a local eagle hunter family, immerse yourself in their culture, and get to know them personally. The family typically has various daily tasks, and you’ll participate in their lifestyle—feeding livestock, milking cows, helping the locals herd the animals at sundown, cleaning shelters, and more. You’ll spend the night in the winter house of the eagle hunter family. In the evening, you’ll enjoy dinner with the locals and have a conversation with the eagle hunters about their daily lives. Start your day with horseback riding alongside eagle hunters as they hunt with golden eagles. Typically, 2-3 eagle hunters will lead the way to the mountain hills, and you’ll join them on horseback while the driver remains nearby. Together, you’ll track the footprints of wildlife, such as foxes or rabbits, alongside the eagle hunters. Usually, eagle hunters hunt like foxes or rabbits with their golden eagles, but this is a rare occurrence for tourists due to the challenging terrain. Eagle hunters often ride to very high gorges where it’s unsafe for tourists to ride horses. Instead, you’ll explore safer areas of the mountains with the eagle hunters. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to observe how they train their golden eagles in the wild and even participate in training under their safe instructions. Throughout the day, the driver and cook will be nearby, providing refreshments like coffee and tea. Later in the evening, you’ll return to the family’s home where you’ll enjoy a mini concert featuring traditional local instruments. Dinner will be the traditional dish “Bes-Barmak,” and you’ll have the chance to engage in conversation about their way of life and perhaps even join in singing some songs.(B/L/D)
You’ll drive about an hour into the mountains to meet the Uriankhai ethnic group, who have lived in this region for centuries. Their culture, language, and religion are distinct from those of the Khalkh Mongols. You’ll get a glimpse into their way of life and even try milking yaks and making traditional Mongolian vodka from yak milk. You’ll also have the chance to join a friendly Uriankhai archery competition with the locals. After saying goodbye to the family, we’ll head to the stunning panoramic Tolbo Lake. Here, you can enjoy ice skating and take part in various ice activities. Playing traditional Mongolian ankle bone games on the ice is especially fun. During the games, your cook will have hot coffee ready in the car for you to warm up before heading back to continue playing with the locals. Later, we’ll return to Olgii town for dinner at a local restaurant with the staff. You’ll spend the night at a hotel. (B/L/D)
You’ll have an early breakfast at hotel. Then, will get transferred to the airport by drivers and tour guides. We’ll bid farewell, hoping to be a part of your unforgettable vacation and bring some vibrant moments to your life.(B)
